15th President Cup
Schedule Review
Recently, the 15th President Cup was held at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada. In the first round of 5 four-person four-ball matches, the US team showed strong strength and won all 5 games away from home, leading the home international team by a big score of 5-0. In the first game of the first round of four-person four-ball matches, Tony Finau & Xander Schauffele played against Byeong Hun An & Jason Day. The latter took a 1-hole lead after the start, but the US team quickly tied the top on the 2nd hole, then took a 1-hole lead on the 8th hole, and expanded the result on the 10th hole. In the end, Tony Finau & Xander Schauffele won 1 hole and scored the first point for the US team! In the second game, Collin Morikawa & Sahith Theegala met Min Woo Lee & Adam Scott. In the first 13 holes, the two sides went back and forth, which was very lively. The US team led in the first half, but the international team took back the advantage in the middle. But starting from the 14th hole, Collin Morikawa & Sahith Theegala maintained their small advantage of winning by 1 hole until the end. The American team got their second point. In the third game, Russell Henley & Scottie Scheffler played against Sungjae Im & Tom Kim. This game was almost one-sided. Scottie Scheffler took the lead from the opening hole. Tom Kim and Sungjae Im only tied the score once on the 8th hole. The rest of the time was the "time" of the American team. In the end, Russell Henley and Scottie Scheffler won 3 holes with 2 holes left. In the fourth and fifth games, the international team still couldn't find the feeling of scoring points. Even a tie and 0.5 points became a luxury. In the fourth game, Keegan Bradley & Wyndham Clark defeated Christiaan Bezuidenhout & Taylor Pendrith by winning by 1 hole. In the fifth match, the even more powerful Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay team defeated the Corey Conners & Hideki Matsuyama team by winning 2 holes with 1 hole left.
On the second day, in the 5 four-man two-ball matches, the International Team swept away the haze of losing all 5 matches on the first day, and gave the US team a "5-0" backhand, turning the total score into 5-5! Such a thrilling "plot" made fans and media around the world unable to believe their eyes. In the first four-man two-ball match, the powerful Patrick Cantlay & Xander Schauffele team lost to Hideki Matsuyama & Sungjae Im by an incredible score, and the latter ended the battle by winning 7 holes with 6 holes left. What does this score mean? The game ended not long after the transition. Is Patrick Cantlay & Xander Schauffele's four-man two-ball level so bad? In the second match, Collin Morikawa & Sahith Theegala played against Adam Scott & Taylor Pendrith. The international team won 5 holes with 4 holes left and recovered 1 point. It must be said that Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith were in great shape, and their cooperation and trust were better than the American team. In the third four-person two-ball match, the international team sent Christiaan Bezuidenhout & Jason Day, who defeated Max Homa & Brian Harman by 1 hole. The fourth four-person two-ball match had another amazing score! Corey Conners & Mackenzie Hughes defeated Wyndham Clark & Tony Finau by 6 holes left and 5 holes left. The American team lost so much in the four-person two-ball match that it really made the fans unable to bear it. It was completely different from the first round. The last to appear was the strong Scottie Scheffler & Russell Henley combination. Facing the challenge of Si Woo Kim & Byeong Hun An, the powerful combination of the American team was defeated in the end and lost the chance to score by losing 1 hole.On the first day, the US team beat the international team 5-0, and on the second day, the international team beat the US team 5-0. It seems that this is the first time that the Presidents Cup has been played so dramatically.
On the third day, in the four four-ball matches in the morning, the US team scored 3-1, and the total score was 8-6. In the four four-ball matches in the afternoon, the US team also scored 3-1, and the total score was 11-7! This may be what the Presidents Cup should be like. In the four four-ball matches on the third day, the US team had a clear advantage. Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa defeated Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith with 2 holes to win and 1 hole to remain. In the second four-ball match, the combination of Tony Finau & Xander Schauffele played more easily and defeated the combination of Corey Conners & Mackenzie Hughes with 3 holes to win and 2 holes to remain. In the third match, the Grand Slam champion Keegan Bradley & Wyndham Clark of the US team lost to the "Kim Brothers" Si Woo Kim & Tom Kim, who won 4 holes with 3 holes left to help the International team get a point back. In the fourth match, Patrick Cantlay & Sam Burns played resolutely and won 2 holes with 1 hole left to finish the match, winning the third point of the morning for the US team. In the afternoon four-person two-ball match, the US team's performance was no longer as bad as the second day. They played 3 to 1 in four games! Scottie Scheffler & Russell Henley were in excellent form and defeated Hideki Matsuyama & Sungjae Im with 3 holes left to win. In the second four-person two-ball match, Adam Scott & Taylor Pendrith of the International team won a game back, and they won 2 holes to defeat Brian Harman & Max Homa of the US team. In the third match, Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns won by 1 hole over Corey Conners & Mackenzie Hughes; in the last match, the US team sent Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, while the international team sent Si Woo Kim & Tom Kim. In the end, the US team won by 1 hole and changed the total score to 11 to 7! On the fourth day of the Presidents Cup, 12 individual matches will be played, and the US team is close to victory.
Presidents Cup Introduction
The Presidents Cup is a well-known international golf team competition that began in 1994 and was founded and managed by the PGA Tour. The event pits the American team, which consists of 12 American players, against the International Team, which consists of 12 international players from outside the United States and Europe. It is held every two years, usually in even-numbered years, but due to the 9/11 incident in 2001, the Ryder Cup was cancelled that year, and the Presidents Cup was postponed to odd-numbered years accordingly. The Presidents Cup's competition system imitates the Ryder Cup, using a match play format, including foursomes and four balls, as well as individual competitions. There is no prize money in the competition, but players can receive a charity fund equal to the prize money, and the players decide the charity object themselves. The event is usually held in countries and regions outside the United States or Europe. Each Presidents Cup will have an honorary chairman, usually the current or former head of government or head of state of the host country. Many American presidents and other politicians have served as honorary chairmen of the event in history.
The competition system mainly includes foursomes, fourballs and singles. Foursomes is also called "turn-shot game". Each team sends two people to take turns to hit the same ball until the ball goes into the hole. Fourballs means that each team sends two people to play their own balls, and the best score of the two people is taken as the score of each hole. Singles means that each team sends one person to compete one-on-one with the players of the other team. The competition is usually held on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and the competition format may be different every day. Foursomes and fourballs are played on Thursdays and Fridays, more foursomes and fourballs are played on Saturdays, and individual competitions are played on Sundays. Victory in each form of competition will bring points to the team, and the team with a total score of 17.5 points or more will win the President's Cup.
The first President's Cup was held at the Robert Trant Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, USA in 1994, with the 38th President of the United States Gerald Ford as the honorary chairman of the event. The United States team, led by captain Hale Irwin, defeated the international team led by David Graham 20:12. The United States team has achieved a significant advantage in previous competitions. Except for 1998 and 2003 (a tie), all other championships have been won by the United States team.
