A Guide to Five Minutes of football

Football league is the most watched family fun program in the United States!
Every season, Friday is the high school football game (HSFA), Saturday is the college football game (NCAA), and Sunday is the professional football game (NFL).
In this blog, Galileo sports - a global supplier of football net and football hitting cage - will take you to get started with American football quickly, let’s celebrate football together.
Football is very popular
It can be said that watching football has become a must-have item for Americans’ weekend leisure.
At the same time, rugby school teams and rugby leagues are also one of the most important cultural components of American university life. The cohesion of alumni of each school and the mutual wisdom between rival schools will be reflected during the schedule.
Therefore, when studying in an American university, you must watch a football game live. From the tailgate before the game to the tens of thousands of people shouting and cheering every time a score is scored, you can immerse yourself in American campus culture and rugby culture!
Basic rules of American football:
Competition venue design
The field is 100 yards long, with an end zone of 10 yards at each end, for a total of 120 yards long and 53 yards wide. The yard lines on the playing field are marked at the 50-yard line, with lines dividing every 5 yards.
At the same time, the line where the football is located on each offense is called the line of scrimmage.
There is a goal on each side of the field, and kicking the ball between the two goal posts is also a means of scoring (field goal). In addition, if any part of a player's body touches the baseline or sideline, it will be considered out of bounds.
Match duration
The regular time of the game is divided into four quarters, the first half and the second half. Each quarter is 15 minutes long. Both teams have three timeout opportunities in the first and second half. There will be an official timeout when the two-minute countdown is near the end of the second and fourth quarters.
If the two sides fail to determine a winner in regular play, it will enter overtime. There is a 15-minute overtime period, and both teams have 2 timeouts each.
Player composition
The team consists of a total of 53 players, divided into offensive, defensive and special teams groups. The rules allow each team to have 11 players on the field at the same time, and teams can change players at will between each offense.
Attack and defense rules
The offensive side attacks with the ball, and there are two ways of attacking:
- Players run with the ball
- A player passes the ball to another player in the air and successfully receives it
The offensive team must advance at least 10 yards in four blocks of offense. Each successful advance of 10 yards will regain four new offensive opportunities, and so on until a touchdown.
If four attacks fail to gain 10 yards, the ball will be handed over to the defense and the offense and defense will switch.
And when the third attack (third down) fails to advance 10 yards, and the distance from the opponent's goal is within the range of the team's kicker, a free kick can be attempted to score. If the ball is scored, 3 points will be scored. If the ball is not scored, the player will score 3 points. The same is true for the transformation of the original earth power.
Scoring method
Touchdown: 6 points
Touchdowns are the most important means of scoring in football games! When the offensive player holds the ball and passes through the upward projection of the opponent's end zone line (it does not require the entire body to pass, as long as the ball crosses the line a little bit), it is determined as a touchdown, or the offensive player receives the ball in the opponent's end zone. If the passer keeps his body in bounds, it will be judged as a touchdown.
1 extra point: 1 point
After the team completes a touchdown, it can attempt a field goal from the 15-yard line, and one point will be awarded if it hits the ball.
Two-point conversion touchdown: 2 points
After the team completes a touchdown, it can attempt a kickoff offense at the 2-yard line in front of the end zone. The team must score another touchdown to gain 2 points.
Field goal: 3 points
A kick can be attempted within the range of the team's own kicker. The kicker scores 3 points if he kicks the ball between the two uprights of the opponent's goal.
Safety: 2 points
It is the rarest scoring situation on the court. The occurrence of safety points means that the offensive side suffers great losses. Generally occurs in the following situations:
1.The offensive player is tackled and falls in his own end zone;
2.A blocked fumble or punt causes the ball to go out of bounds in the end zone;
3.The offensive team is called for a foul by the referee in its own area, such as a pulling foul in the end zone.
Then the defense gets 2 points, and the offense has to give the ball to the defense.
